    Default Question for FFLs, Identification

So I moved, and did my duty of getting my address changed promptly at the DMV... well, they promptly stamped my Photo DL void and gave me a temporary peice of paper.

They told me it could take weeks to get my photo DL in the mail.

My question is this. For you FFL's out there, would I have to wait until my permanent photo DL to go buy a firearm? Or can I get away with my Voided Photo DL/Temporary paper, and something else?

Is there any Legislation that provides a FFL with guidance on what to take for ID?

I don't know the answer to your question but you should receive your new license within two weeks, max. My daughter just went through the process and the new license came in 4 days.

Also, when we moved in February, we just went to the DMV and filled out the forms and put a sticker on the back with our new address. No new license until we renew in 4 more years.

Apparently according to 27 CFR 478.11 and 478.124 (c) A purchaser may be identified by any combination of government-issued documents which together establish all the required information. Name, Address, dob, and photo.

So hopefully I get a guy at the counter that knows the rules.

I wish they had put a sticker on it... They literally had a punch that punched holes in it saying "VOID". That is what I get for going to the Aurora location.

I recently had a shop say they would not accept my license with a sticker on the back showing my new address. They did however take my CWP ID which did have the current address on the front.

The gold standard of photo ID is a passport, which together with your temporary certificate should satisfy anyone. If you have no photo ID other than the now-voided old license, you'll probably have to wait until the new photo ID arrives to purchase a firearm.

The FFL guidelines direct that it must be a combination of VALID government issued documents to establish photo, name, DOB and residency.

This is correct. As long as the combination of government issued documents add up to Name, Address, DOB and Photo the FFL can accept that. For instance A Driver's License with the incorrect address and a motor vehicle registration with the correct address. A Concealed Handgun Permit will work if it has all of the required information.

I have a DOD Identification. Looks like a Spouse Military ID. Has a photo on it... perhaps I can use that in conjunction with the Temporary Colorado DL?

No Passport. Never needed to go overseas, requires too much paperwork and hassle on the SF86 for me. Well except for the one overseas stint that screwed up my life forever.

As long as together both documents have Name, Photo, DOB and Address they would meet the legal requirement. Now whether the FFL will actually accept it or not who knows, it depends on the FFL.

The paper work they gave you as a temporary is acceptable to purchase a gun. Same thing happened to my honey's son when he went to purchase a gun and he handed them what the DMV gave him along with a photo id and there was no problem. That was at sportsmans warehouse.
