    Consumer Reports says... Top 5:
    USAA
    NJM
    Amica
    Auto-Owners Insurance Group
    Erie Insurance Group

    Bottom 5:
    Metlife
    Allstate
    Progressive
    Farmers
    Mapfre

Most other consumer ratings companies show USAA and Amica as the only 2 good choices with all the other companies in the toilet. Remember folks, anecdotes isn't data until you've got thousands of 'em.

Ive had State Farm forever. They auto renew my policy and never run my record because I havent made a claim in many many years. A friend of mine became an independent insurance agent and ran me among all the carriers to try and save me some money. With my driving record having 3 speeding tickets against me even State farm should be charging me more I cant afford to switch!

I've great luck with Farmers. I have all my vehicles, house and fire insurance through them. And to top it off. About 5 -6 years ago the west side of my roof was collapsing in. $19,000 claim. I paid $2,500 out of pocket. They never raised any of my policies a single dime!!

Nobody could beat USAA, after my wife has had a terrible driving record.

Two vehicles with Progressive for about 10 years, never had a claim...seems reasonable cost wise.

Two other vehicles and the house with Farm Bureau, they aren't that bad either it seems...again, no car claims, but we've had a few house claims. No complaints with those guys either.

I'll add also that Farm Bureau was the only company that would insure my ambulance. Nobody else would cover it...weight and some other crap about being a cut-away chassis blah blah.

Zip Code, claims, education level, credit rating, value of insured vehicles, marital status, age and many other factors go into the rate. Some carriers give more discounts for certain things than others. Person A may get a better rate from one company, person B from a different.

Last I checked, with all my discounts for degrees, professional license, accident free, etc. I had pretty decent rates.

There's something odd going on if you have access to USAA and don't use it. Back when I had a landline, every time an insurance company called me they would give up as soon as they found out I had USAA. That says something incredible. Beyond the prices, the company runs like a club rather than someone trying to make a profit off you. They've even told me when I was better off going to another company (Progressive) for my motorcycle coverage. The agent straight up told me that it wasn't their strong suit and they only offered it because some customers insisted on having everything go through them for the convenience of having a single company to deal with.

Have had USAA since i started driving 10 years ago. Great rates never had a problem. When the garbage man ran into my old car and totaled it, it got a check in the mail from USAA the next day for what the car was worth! Plus depending on the year I always enjoy that check that comes in the mail!

Progressive is my current insurer, but have left a bad taste in my mouth the past couple months. My agent was basically non-existent during my latest claim, except for where they told me to contact the other insurance company to get a check for my expenses. When I wrote to complain about my treatment, I was told I'd hear back within 2 business days. That was 22 days ago, still waiting on a reply. My job recently sent me a letter to remind me I can get auto insurance through them at a discount. Going to look into that this weekend.
