    Default It's A Jeep Thing...

    ...I don't understand.

I did buy one though. It's a '93 Cherokee Xj and the working title is Radio Flyer. Hemroid was a close second. 180K mile on an AZ body.

Looking for local sources for new/used parts and "real" repair manuals.

This is a a stock DD in the mountains. No lift. No big tires. No stinger bars. No light bars to light up Vegas. No pics of me in/over/under the vehicle. with my tongue hanging out, flashing the hook'em/devil's horns sign.

    Motor/5 speed/T'case is strong.

Under the hood is the first concern.

    Motor mounts
    Dist/rotor/plugs/wires
    Radiator
    Water pump
    Thermostat
    Sway bar bushings

    Working back from there.

Who are the good guys to deal with?

Hey man. I had a few XJ's. Just did usual maintenance stuff on them, but if you need a hand with things give me a shout.

Honestly the internet is your best friend. You can learn how to do just about any car job using a google search.

Sounds like a fun project. I don't know much about XJ's but I'm always down to help turn a wrench and learn something new. Are you going to wheel it at all?

I had a 93 XJ.. they are pretty bulletproof motors…

biggest thing that sucks is the tranny and the hydraulic throw out bearing…

pretty easy to work on tho .

Jeeps unlimited for used parts .. in weld county . just off I-25 .

tons of jeep forums that can answer just about any question you could ever ask.

I personally preferred Rusty's off road for my lift kit.

Love my '97 Cherokee. There was a reason that they built them with only a minor body retooling for 17 years.

fnjeep down here in the springs, as well as a few other salvage yards are good sources for parts. Oil leaks are one of the biggest annoyances on those engines, the rear main/oil pan, and valve cover being the two most common. Done a ton of them myself. Champion copper plugs are the plug of choice on them, make sure you use a good quality t-stat. Pretty decent vehicle overall really, and if you were to take it offroad, fairly capable. You could do a lot worse for a bug out machine. jeepforums is a pretty good source of info, I'm on there a lot more than here actually.

I've been looking for a newer XJ to build for DD and mild offroading. Color me jealous.
