I've always preferred my Marlin 60 over the Ruger 10/22. Don't get me wrong, I like the 10/22.

It's a little pricy, but the most accurate 22 I own is a CZ 452 Scout. It's the youth model I bought for my son and is ridiculously accurate. I would take that over any other I've shot or own.

If you are a lefty, forget the AR-7, the way the receiver assembles to the stock is offset to the right. This makes for a cumbersome grip for the left handed.

    How about a Single six?

Shorter... lighter ...I can hit a 16" steel target off hand at 100 yards with my 6.5" pistol. And you can put it in a holster.

Thinking outside he box. PLUS you don't have to ask the game or the bad guy to wait a second while you assemble the damn thing.

I like the AR-7 if your purpose is a lightweight compact rifle to harvest small game with a .22 LR. Mine is accurate and lightweight even with 5 spare magazines (2 of them 15 rounders).

For self-defense as well as hunting slightly larger animals (e.g., coyotes), I like the Beretta CX-4 Storm. It takes the same magazines as my M9/92fs, is lightweight and easy to handle and has a rail for optics if desired. If I had to live with just one, this would probably be it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I learned quite a bit just by having to look all of those up.

I may end up with another .22 handgun after all, but will be looking at all the options the next time I had to a funshop.

Rossi model 62 pump, copy of the early Winchesters. I've owned a couple. They break down pretty small, accurate enough out to 100 yards or so, and will feed pretty much anything in .22 short, long, or long rifle(unlike most autos).

What about something like a Thompson Contender or some other "pistol" with approx a 10" barrel?

If you're going that long see my previous post. .38/.357 or 44 in a small multi shot package.

Get a break-action shotgun and drop some $ on this . Cool concept, only 300 or so have been sold and who knows if they're any good.

I have an AR-7, but i really prefer my AR15 running the 22 conversion bolt. The bolt runs a little less than you'll pay for a full rifle.
