Default Ammendment 66 - More from the Democratic Controlled Congress and East Coast Money

Did you know Colorado had a large surplus this year that could have been used to fund education, yet the Democratic controlled state government funneled it into projects and reserves, yet then sponsored a Bill to raise our taxes.

    http://gazette.com/flush-with-cash-c...rticle/1503472

If you are making less than 75K, this is an 8% Tax Increase. If you make more than 75K, then your taxes will increase up to 27%

If you live in Boulder, Douglas, Jefferson or Cherry Creek schools, 50% of every dollar taken in taxes would go to Denver and Aurora schools or other poorer school districts. Why? because these better off school districts have approved property taxes for local schools to improve them and Denver had voted against these tax increases. But this is a sweet deal for Denver, for every dollar collected in Taxes, they will get $1.50 to $2 to spend. There are no clear programs defined, no results for better grades, no performance metrics. Money mandated in evaluations and audits (READ ADMISTRATION COSTS), etc

Douglas County School district unanimously took a position against.

See what a Jeffco school board member has to say about it

Know where the money for the "vote Yes" ads are coming from? Same place as gun control ads; New York and DC.

Not a single Republican supported this as it went through the state Government. There was no compromise or attempt to reach a bipartisian plan.

Sorry, the tax and spend government just irks me.

A (conservative) teacher friend in Cherry Creek is against 66 and said the district is also in opposition to the bill. We've had some interesting conversations around common core too.

Once again, we see urban voters and the dems attempting to redistribute the wealth like the socialists they are.

One more thing to think about. Once approved they can lower the threshold without a vote of the people. Meaning that in a year the higher tax rate could apply to those making oh, $30K per year. For the children ya know. They always love to be able to change the rules.
I see you running, tell me what your running from

Nobody's coming, what ya do that was so wrong.

^This is a major problem in my mind. And everything else you all said.

We've been throwing money at education for decades and the scores keep getting worse. I'm all for supporting my local schools but I darn sure don't want to pay extra taxes that will end up supporting the shity DPS schools that money can't fix.

66 would suck all my disposable income and would leave nothing for discretionary spending. I would possibly have to cut back on retirement savings. In addition to all the other bad things, it's an economic catastrophe.

[edit] I re-read the data and the actual tax change and while it's not going to impact me as much as I might have expected, it's still a $2400 increase in state income tax on our combined income.

Denver de-bruced the property tax last year for the " children". So sky's the limit now. Not sure why they need yet another increase. With all the property values increasing as well.

Shhhh, don't mention that. Gotta get the increases locked in before revenues recover naturally after the recession.

Schools need more funds? What results are we getting for what we pay now? More money down the same hole will get us more of the same results.

Not another dime as long as I have the ability to deny the tax.

I dropped off my ballot the yesterday. I can't say I'm happy about the mail only ballot.

You can vote in person, if you want, and you can do it in "advance" of election day, at least in my area (and I think you are nearby).

I went by the Pecos/122nd "Polling Place" today to get a replacement ballot (I checked one too many in one of the sections).
Instead I just voted in person, using their computerized voting system.
