Default Optics question from a newb

I am just returning to the AR world so I have a question. I have a Bushmaster removable handle style, I want to remove the handle and install a flip down rear Iron sight and add a scope. What is the best setup as far as scope mount etc for someone on a budget so I can use both? Any help would be appreciated.

If you use a scope on your flat top either you have to get high rings or some sort of flat top riser if you want to see over or at least mostly over your front sight assuming it is fixed. I hate to see the post in my scope. I went with a flat top riser and high rings. Of course this doesn't help your cheek to stock fit though unless you got a comb riser type stock. I had a flip up sight and got a riser that fit just forward enough that I could mount the rear sight. This is the way I went and one could go many different routes. Look around on midway or brownells for some ideas. Brownells.com has a new AR builder link that is kind of fun. Look on the trading post for items that are for sale. Hint hint. I'm selling some stuff you may want.
