Irving, some builders install filters on the fresh air returns. You see them on ranch style houses or furnaces that have height restrictions.

I was thinking that I could just put the filter on the other side of the grate that it is sitting on. I'll be pissed off if the furnace is pinning down the filter and I can't get to it to change it out though.

Perfect barrel stove weather, but I haven't finished the patio yet.

Might be in the blower compartment as well. All manufacturers/code says there must be a filter. Check in the return air drop/ductwork and blower compartment of the furnace, or if you have 10x10(or similar size) return air vents on the wall it might be in there.

I went and took a bunch of pictures of my furnace, then decided to see if I could remove a panel that didn't look removable before. I pulled it off and the filter is right there and super easy to access (also super dirty). Turns out I'm just dumb. Thanks for the help everyone (hghclsswhitetrsh).

Better dumb with a clean filter, than ignorant and no heat. The original furnace in this house had a filter, but no access. Nothing a sawzall didn't remedy.

I have a love/hate relationship with the cold. Love to ski but hate being cold. So as long as I'm dressed appropriately I don't mind it.
