Default Pistol reload - Powder question - type?

I've done reloading for a while, in the past and present. I've tried unique, red dot, blue dot and W231. All seem to function well. I'd like to get a nice clean burning powder that has the great muzzle "flash" like some of the factory loads do in 9mm/357. It just seems that the factory loads are clean and virtually smoke free, and I'd like to duplicate as close as possible.

Anyone have a suggestion on powder to use?

    Thanks in advance. Kelly

For lots of muzzle flash use a slow powder. Look for the ones at the bottom of the chart as the ones at the top are normally the fastest burning.

Thanks. I'll just stick with W231 then... might try some others.

For your .357 I would highly recommend trying H110. I was shocked by the accuracy I got from mine using this powder.

I use herc 2400 for my .357 when I load my good loads that are very accurate.

Looks like the H110 is very similar to the W296 - I just recently had loaded up a small batch with 296 for grins to see how it functions. Haven't fired them yet...

I don't think you can load 9's with it, but Lil' Gun in my .357 is a kick. Huge flash, big bang. Turns some heads.
First time I tried it, scared the stuff out of me. Thought there was some mistake with the data chart. Verified thru several reputable sources that it was an ok load.
Give it a try if you dare...
