Sig P228 Resurrected

Well a week or so I picked up a Sig P228 that was a Zurich Police trade in. I did not look shot much but had some honest holster wear ext... It is not a west german but is a triple S/N and it was at a good price. The night sights on it were very dim 2/10 at best. I messed around with the Sig M11 while in service and thought I fresh'n her up again and kinda do a M11'ish rework. I ordered in a set of Meprolights(Yellow rear, Green front) and a new set of springs. Then I tore it down to bare parts and today I put every carbon steel part in the Parkerizing tank to give it that corrosion resistance Sig Markets so well now with the "Not a" M11A1 and the Mk25 pistols. I have no idea what all the parts Sig coats but I said the hell with it and did them all, pins, springs, everything 46 parts in all, and the only thing setting on my bench was a frame and set of grips.... The parts came out looking great and I should have the slide put back together tonight and frame tommorro w/ new sights installed. I will get photos of the slide up tonight and follow on with the frame and whole pistol after that. --USNRigger--

What are you going to do to the frame as far as refurbishing it?

Well, Anodize is a option. However Id have to find something local'ish and not charging me for a whole batch, or I may just do a cerakote or something. the frame was not as worn as the slide so it may just show some light use/wear. --Update-- I have the slide back together, and I tried taking photos but inside with my camera it just shows up as a fuzzy/furry black slide thingy. I will have to try it during the day or with it all put back together.

Well here it is for you guys. The only thing on this P228 that is not Park'd is the roll pins on the slide. I had to order a new set as the original larger OD pin was sheared when I got it out. I will be taking them out and Park'ing them next week sometime to round out the whole black theme. Turned out really good and with the exception of the few dings on the frame it looks pretty darn good. I think my M11'ish build worked out pretty good

I carry a P228 for my ccw. Always goes bang, dirty or clean. Dang good guns.

Sigs are one of my favorites, mainly for the reason you stated they are hard to stop them from working and also the controls(slide release, decock lever) is just more logically located. I carried both the P228's and P226 during my time in the Navy. A lot of the guys including me preferred P228's with being just a hair smaller and would have a standard P228 mag in the pistol and all the rest P226 mags for a few extra rounds. Double action is a bit heavier then the M9 but the single action of the Sig is nicer over the M9 IMO. I hope to find a good P226 to refinish -- But for now I need to run about 200 rounds to break this thing back in and smooth things up.

The P226 is considered the full size and is available in 9, 357 SIG, and .40 S&W, as well as a .22lr conversion.

The P228/229 are essentially the same size and a bit shorter in the slide and barrel than the 226. I believe the slides on the 229s are stainless steel while the slides on the 228s are an alloy. The 228s were 9mm while the 229 comes in 9, 357 SIG, and .40 S&W.

They all operate pretty much the same way unless you get one of the DAK versions. I personally prefer the standard DA/SA with the decock lever.

Yes, pretty much the commander of the two. the P228 was only offered in 9mm and was on the carbon stamped steel slide as was the 226 in the beginning. The P229 came out with the stainless slide for the hotter 40S&W and 357Sig rounds. The 229 frame is slightly wider too, and has a square trigger guard. if you have a 229 or 228 in 9mm it will take 226 mags, but cant go the other way obviously. I like the P228 and P226 as stainless is not as easy or as many options to refinish and more important its lighter (P228 vsP228). The P220 is another excellent option if you want a single stack 45acp, and they make compact versions now. If I could buy 5 Sigs it would be 210,239,228,226 and 220(no specific order). -- the Sig M11A1 is basically a P229 from what ive seen and read on other forums, and its Sig being good at marketing as with the MK25 as well, we had very few with rails. But anyway that's the basics if I remember right

The new P227 is on my short list after the hotness and price settles.

I wouldn't kick a P220 SAO out of bed though.
