It always cracks me up how these leftist/anarchist kids have come to admire Guy Fawkes as some sort of freedom fighter, when he was simply trying to establish a Catholic Theocracy in England.

To me, Nov 5th is not about left or right, or even necessarily about fireworks. To me, Guy Fawkes represents the spirit of dissent and revolution, and that is something that I will remember, remember.

+1 This. Regardless of what drove his actions (replacing one theocracy for another), he and the others involved in the "Gunpowder Plot" were expressing their dissent and seeking political change. In Guy Fawkes time, violent revolution was the only possible means of expressing dissent. While I don't hold out much hope, I certainly pray that we don't return to that.
