Petitions on Whitehouse.gov

Occasionally we see/hear about the petitions on the WhiteHouse.gov website. I've never actually taken the time to read through them.
I signed several just now. There are a few more I want to sign but am hesitant. I think it's worth the time to look through them occasionally to see what is out there right now.

EDIT: I'd be all over the Daylight Savings petition if the author wasn't an idiot and only called for two time zones. Also, they should have cited the rise in crime rates, and not changing sleep cycles.

I've signed a few anti-bummer petitions in the past but stopped when I started getting e-mails inferring I had signed liberal BS petitions. It's all rigged.

Well.. I've signed onto a number of them but in general it's really there just to make you feel like you have a say and can do something.

Didn't an NFA petition get looked at and a change was made? It was made for the worse, but still, didn't that happen recently?

I do not think that was a petition. It was lobbying from an industry group that got twisted.

Useless waste of time. Get X amount of signatures and we'll take a look? BS! If you really think those petitions do anything whatsoever, I know of a great ocean-view property you can get a great deal on in Nebraska!

google wants warrants to be issued before the .gov can get your online info.

That's what brought me on there. Ronin, the point, which I never really made clear, is that occassionally checking the site gives you an idea of what hot political topics are go I ng on. I was pretty pleased to see Benghazi stuff on there.

Signed some...never again.
Waste of time. IMHO.
I felt they were not taken "seriously". (Yes, I agree, that some topics are a bit far-fetched at times).

Although the petition had the requisite number of signatures for "consideration", an email was sent out to the signatories basically saying
---'Thanks for your interest; however, we don't agree and are going to continue doing what we want.'

If was phrased more diplomatically, but said they "disagreed" with the signatories and are going to pursue what they feel is best [regardless of the expressions of the populace signing the petition].

I kind of wonder if is is not just a way to collect a list of anti-establishment "troublemakers" (in their perspective), all categorized neatly by topic (i.e. the types/topics of petitions one signs).

I can maybe dig up the email, if anyone is interested....

However, I do agree that browsing the site can give a perspective of the current "pulse" of the American public.

I don't remember if one has to be a US citizen to sign, or if anyone that registers on the site can sign/originate petitions, though.
