Taking my daughter skiing for the first time this weekend

Any advice?

I figure we are spending the day on the bunny hill, or at least the morning. It has been about 7 years since I hit the slopes myself. Though I was a high blue/low diamond when I was. Of course that was mostly on East coast hills so here I am probably a high bunny hill/low blue...

I think I can pass on the snow plow and turning. Pretty straight forward. Make it as much fun as possible so she enjoys herself and wants to do more.

ETA: She is five. I am getting her some nice short skis, probably getting myself some short ones too to make it easier for me with her.

FWIW, with the grand kids, a morning beginner class without parents and grand parents, lunch, then the afternoon with family on the long easy green(most all the ski areas have one) worked great.

I like Loveland for begginers and classes. Their kids learning program is second to none. Both my sons hadd their firts lessons there and the level of confidence they had after the first day was amazing.

I used to be a ski instructor MANY years ago and I taught kids.
My advice is to enroll her into a ski school. Don't try teaching her yourself - teaching family and friends is a bad idea.
Usually the best way to teach them is by playing 'games' on skis - that way you're not preaching to them!

I'd also suggest a 1/2 day group lesson to start. I used to teach skiing and was amazed how much better it worked when it *wasn't* a parent trying to teach their kids. My brother is a much better skier than me, but his girls still initially learned quicker with me.

Rent her some equipment in Denver, I think it was $12 for his skis/boots, and it will be about $25 for both of you for 1 lift at Loveland Basin. Best bang for your buck. I took my my son last spring just after he turned 3 and it was perfect.

You can do it dad. Take her up and make sure she likes it before spending money on lessons. Here is a vid from my boys first time up last spring. Have fun with a father daughter day!
