They dismissed us from school early. My old man till this date still dislikes JFK, Something about a mick bastard, less than honest family history. Not to say he wasn't broken up about him being shot, just not a fan of him. My family has a long history of NOT VOTING DEMOCRAT.
Then again he still holds a grudge against Truman for dismissing MacArthur.
Everyone has an opinion about all statesman, good, bad , indifferent. The kennedy clan's ties to organized crime went back decades before JFK was elected president. I believe those ties were one part of his being elected. Keep in mind a lot of "dirt" was well known within the media, yet they acted different then. None of this 24/7 instant gratification, we have today. Of course the fear of ending up as newspaper pulp may have played a part.

While D's give lip service to JFK as a visionary, they have forgotten these words.

ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU,
ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY

The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe - the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.

I wasn't alive, not even close. He was just another politician, no more no less as far as I'm concerned.

Yikes! I should have put on a fire retardant suit before starting this thread. I was simply stating that, by comparison, the caliber of Democrat that Kennedy was seems almost like a Republican by comparison to the Dems we have trudging their sh*t covered shoes through D.C. today. And like it or not, many of you may hate politicians (lord knows I'm hard pressed to find enough to count on one hand that I like), but we're stuck with that type of person in this day and age...

Kennedy was a vet and a spoke and acted with more honor than the majority of Republicans nowadays. The Dems and Republicans had an idealogical switch in the late 60s. Kennedy would be a Republican and a conservative today.

His death opened up the flood gates for LBJ's social programs. FDR's New Deal was bad, but fuck's sake...

Well, he was not directly responsible for his death and thus LBJs policies. He was more closely aligned with Regan's policies than those of Obama, Clinton or McCain...

Just based on his policies and platform, he would not get so much as even a local office today, much less the presidency. Regan ran on, and invoked many of JFks polices. I still say that a Republican who adopted JFKs entire platform would be BETTER for us than any president since he was in office, but unelectable.

As many said, JFK had his good points, and bad points. He was a WWII vet, and sadly the son of a traitor. Him, and Bobby were probably the two better Kennedys. Edward, well, we all know how well he could drive. I don't recall seeing anything pointing him out as being anti-gun, but then it was after his death that the anti-gunners came out of the woodwork. He gave several moving speeches, including putting a man on the moon, and what can you do for your country. One could say he was the Reagan of the democrats, or would have been. He was a politician, and has the same moral compass as most. One could speculate LBJ's involvement in the assassination, and the socialists overtaking the democrats once and for all. We have reached a point that nears critical mass now. The entitlement mentality has taken over, and now we are reaching the point where the minority of the people must work to support the majority. That goes along with the socialist/communist plan. The thing to do now is to ban voting for those on substantial gov't assistance, and vote changes in that will get them off the gravy train. We all know that will not happen, as the "people's party" will not allow that, and got rid of the filibuster to boot. Now, when nearly all people are on gov't assistance and handouts, they will support and make it illegal for those on such programs to vote, giving the elite total control of us.
