Default Comparable to the Glock 19?

I'm going to the Tanner Gun Show tomorrow morning with the intent to buy a handgun. I like the Glock 19 but I'm not very knowledgeable in guns.

What are comparable guns I should research?

I have a G19 and a G17 and I like the G19 much better. Years ago I had a HK USP that I loved but I was dumb & sold it.
Don't know a lot about the others out there but a friend of mine has a Ruger P-series and its not bad at all.
I hear that XD's are nice as well, good luck on your purchase.....

Oh and welcome to the Board.....

Glock 19 all the way. You won't be disappointed.

    Glock trumps all.

I was at Sportsman's Wearhouse today and some guy told me that of all his duty issued service weapons he's ever had, the XD was the only one to ever hold up. He went on to tell me that one time in Iraq, he was in a fire fight where he fired 500 rounds (from his XD) and he had to go out the next day and do it again. He was shocked that it still worked. Instead of asking him where the fuck his rifle was during this alleged "500 round fire-fight," and how dare he pose as as fucking military combatant with such a bullshit story, I just replied, "That's weird, I've never had a gun that couldn't do that just fine." Then I walked away. What a fucking dipshit.

Well thats interesting to know that an XD will hold up just fine in place of a rifle in a firefight.
Assault is a type of behavior, not a type of hardware.

And 500 rounds of 9mm sidearm ammunition is obviously just a double basic load - no biggie.

How do you plan on using thes weapon? (CCW, home defence, target)
Of all of the handguns I have owned or used, the one I would bet my life on is the GLOCK with out any question.

500 round firefight ? A pistol is only the right choice until you can use your rifle.

When did they change the issue weapon from the Berreta M9 to the XD?

Sturtle - I'm surprised that the guy didn't re-enforce his story and tell you he was a security contractor over there - working with "Graywater".

Comparable guns would be any other mid sized (4 inch barrel) semi-auto handgun with a polymer frame: H&K USPC, S&W M&P, Springfield XD or XDM.
