Default Which Side are You On?- Neo Feudalism - WRSA - Weekly Standard Article about the Silicon Valley

I know where I stand with the owners of my company, do you know where you stand with yours?

http://www.weeklystandard.com/articl...sm_768037.html - please read it all

Two years ago the Occupy movement of progressives raised a battle cry against the “1 percent,” who were supposed to be striped-pants, Republican-voting tycoons lifted from the Monopoly board. What they didn’t know was that the 1 percent actually wear rubber shower sandals, ride bicycles—$20,000 bicycles—and vote Democratic and green, green, green. It was them. It was the future, and it has already arrived in the Silicon Valley.
As I understand it my company tries to outsource me at least every couple of years. They haven't succeeded so far because of the broad task list I am presented with and my ability to complete that task list successfully every day. The outsourcing companies cannot do the work as inexpensively as I do it and that is the main reason I am still employed there.

What I mean by which side are you on is...are you a serf or a lord...or master of your domain.

Here I thought this was going to be a choose your king: Google, Apple, MS, BB. Though some of those can provide less protection than others.

This is not the first place I've seen that reminder that silicon valley has many entries in that 1% Occupy wanted to rail against. I doubt this will go anywhere though. Tech is loved, that can cover many blemishes.

My domain, regardless of size, is mine and I am the exclusive master of it. I depend on no overlord for my welfare. Sure, I work for others for a livelihood, but I am not tied to the job, nor unwilling to walk if I deem it time to leave.

No question, most of us in this country are serfs. We serve at the master's pleasure. Even if you paid cash for a home off the grid and used no utilities (think Jeramiah Johnson),you still need a job. And someone will always be looking in on you. Looking for a little bit of your life. Lucky for us there is usually someone below us on the social ladder.
