Default Gift Suggestions? Boy Scout related knife/gun/etc.

I grew up in a small town where for the most part, people are close, are still really good to each other. There's a guy who has been helping out my parents for the last several years, he's some sort of medical or chiropractic guy and has really taken care of my parents as they've grown older and started having more frequent and severe issues. He also is quick to loan out his boat to the family in the summer and other things like that, and will never take a dollar for it. Sounds like he's also taken over responsibility for the local scouts in the small town as well.

My dad approached me looking for ideas for a nice gift for him. He was thinking maybe a really nice BSA-edition knife or small gun or something along those lines. He hasn't said exactly but I'm getting the sense that somewhere around $50-200 is probably what he had in mind. Maybe a little more if it was a perfect gift. I can probably pick up most guns/knives at dealer cost for him, so I can give him a little more wiggle room.

Any suggestions? I think the Henry Golden Boy would be perfect, but it is 900 retail. The 10/22 are usually at least $300.

For knives, I see swiss-army types all over the place. I'm sure quality probably varies quite a bit too. Looks like they are licensed out to many manufacturers.

Anyway, I'm fishing for any recommendations. I'm assuming we have a few scouts on the board. Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

If there is a boy scout store anywhere near your parents town, then he should look there. They usually have some good gift ideas. Or, they can contact the local council office. In the past ive seen some cool BSA edition 22s advertised at the BSA store in the springs. The wife says you can check www.scoutstuff.org as well.

The problem is that the Henry Golden Boy and Ruger 10/22 can't be used with Boy Scouts (I know, it sounds seriously stupid). Boy Scouts can only use bolt-action .22s.

As a Tenderfoot, I looked longingly at the Swiss Army-type knives but I learned very quickly that a Buck 110 was about all I needed or wanted. Since he's taken responsibility for the local scout group, I'd suggest giving him a gift card for REI or ScoutStuff.org. You could also give him a gift card or certificate to your store and let him know you can get items at cost. He may want to give Scouts a good knife after a milestone like achieving First Class or Star rank and it will be helpful to obtain those goods at dealer cost.
