Every time I see someone say something like this, I can't help but think "so stealing was the only thing they did? You were there? Wow, that must have been a crazy thing to witness!"
A person can't say 100% of the time "If a guy breaks into my house/car/whatever I won't do anything"- different circumstances, different actions, different outcomes.

I don't know about in MO. Here, and in most states, you're entitled to use reasonable if non-lethal force in defense of your property.
Which begs the question: let's say that I walk out and find some fine human being rifling though the center console of my truck. I grab his collar to pull him out of the truck and ask "What the **** are you doing?"
He responds to my intrusion into his personal space by producing a knife.
Normally, a knife at close quarters, presented with hostile intent, is emphatically a threat of death or great bodily harm. Am I no longer justified in escalating because I confronted him when I should have just let him gank my stuff?
I'm not sure what to think. I wonder if Bob Costas will tell us what to think.![]()
This is actually a scenario a Jeffco DA presented when talking about the use of force in defense of property, and if the criminal escalates the situation with deadly force (or the threat thereof) because they were confronted you are justified in using deadly force- because now it's become a self-defense issue. You have the right to not be killed or subjected to serious bodily injury, but my advice is not legal advice, I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV...![]()
