We are woodworkers looking to transition into gunsmithing. My boss and I took a tour today. He's more keen on enrolling than I am since he has a background in machining and welding. Anybody graduate from there or have any insight? They do repairs as well for the general public so students can get real world experience.

Everyone I know thinks more highly of the school down in Trinidad. But I have no first person knowledge of either.

If your going to devote time and money to learning the trade then do it right.
CST has faded from the limelight and is not what it used to be.
Trinidad, Yavapai, Murray State, Lassen are all degree courses.

Any of them will give you just enough knowledge for an entry level position in the trade.

Better money to be had in woodworking.
The 'Smiths that bring in good money are typically highly specialized and have spent years if not decades learning and perfecting their craft. They are few and far between and Colorado is a very tough market with CST and Trinidad- you can't swing a dead squirrel over your head without hitting 18 "gumsmiffs" that are either out of work or underemployed.

i looked at the school and ended up taking some machining classes at Community collage of Denver for 6 months was cheaper on my wallet and time frame learned some very basic steps on operating a mill and lathe. the benefit to this is the courses counted as college credit and towards a certificate and degree.
