Wiring code help

I'm helping with a wiring job and we have a code question. This is all residential in Douglas county. When wiring a receptacle in the middle of a run can we wire in to the top of the receptacle and then wire out to the next with the bottom? Or do we have to pigtail them into the top?

Yes you can.

Edit: To be more specific. The reason daisy chaining is discouraged is if one receptacle goes bad the rest down line will go out. I almost never daisy chain.

Edit part 2: If you want to go all out code wise don't forget arc fault protection.

didn't that use to be called wiring in series, or parallel ?

You can call it series/parallel if you want. Daisy chain is just another term we electricians use.

Wire nut and pig tail out to each receptacle. You will prevent future headaches chasing down intermittent problems.

And don't forget the ground wire too.

But if I didn't daisy chain a line here in the basement, I'd never have known part of one outlet was going bad. Everything died downstream, thus making me Fix it.
