Default Maricopa County Community College Hacked, 2.5 mil peoples info stolen

Anyone attend in AZ at any point in time? I got my letter the other day and am quite worried now. Not sure what to do other than keep a close eye on my credit report, not feeling up to giving the company they suggest my ss# + so they can run monitoring. Any suggestions anyone wants to add to help any of us who are affected by this would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't bother with the monitoring either. Not much you can do other than keep an eye on things and hope you don't get picked from the crowd. Do your taxes early since they probably got enough to fraud your refund.

LOCK your credit reports. Costs a few bucks, but unless you need credit right now, keep it locked. Unlock and relock when you need it. Think of it as the manual safety on your financial health.

I was reading about it today, you need to set it up with the three credit reporting agencies. (Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax) Cost is around $10 each. It makes it so whenever a company tries to check your credit, as in trying to open a loan or line of credit, they will be denied the information thus resulting in the company rejecting the loan or line of credit. This helps by keeping someone from being able to use your identity to make credit cards or get a car loan etc.

I am not sure if this helps with tax refund fraud however.

It seems like a good thing to do for the low cost, though if you do plan on needing to use your credit, it can be a hassle and will cost to open it up again for use. Even a one time use.
