He is "still waiting for a good-guy citizen to stop a bad guy." Well there are examples of major incidents stopped if he looks. Minor incidents are not likely reported.

Feel free to point out to him that he won't hear about a "good-guy citizen" at a school because... yeah. Then point out the sign at Aurora theater.

He is looking for a rare incident (CCW happens to be there) on top of an already extremely rare incident (real in-discriminant mass shooter), even one or two examples are significant.
