The rail section is for the light...night 3-gun/zombie shoot stuff. I could also open up the area just behind it for the sling QD, or a space on the bottom for a bipod mount. The point is, I can open up any area that I want, unlike the mass-produced stuff. I'm all about doing it my way. Next up for the sewing machine is some multi-cam for this one.

Here's the after picture on the FDE AR wrap... It's beginning to look less and less like the original build in the avatar.

I had a hand guard for my SBR I thought was perfect...until I tried to attach a rail mounted brass catcher. No provision for side rails. After a bit of head scratching I ended up drilling and tapping it for a scrap section of rail I had lying around. Perfecto! The rail piece had been cut with a hacksaw, so I got to practice my filing skills to clean it up.

Considering I'm a dedicated wood weenie, it turned out close to perfect.

I though I was quite the tool guy, then I built a sheet metal airplane. OMG, the outlay for toolage was extreme!
It turned out okay, but oh, my, I had NOTHING I needed in tools!

Moved the Harris bipod to an AR, installed the Atlas to the Remmy 700. THAT was an experience. There was a lot of hardware, MacGivering, and cussing involved. The B&C stock has a slot with two sling mounts. I had to devise a way to attach the Atlas picattiny mount to something on the B&C. I ended up using the one of the 10-32 screws on the B&C slot on one end of the rail section, and one of the two sling studs on the other end. I guess I should take a pic to try to make this appear to make sense.
BTW, I picked up a Weaver adapter, that is supposed to attach to a sling stud, to add a rail section, but it swiveled when it wasn't supposed to, so had to bail on that idea.
Yeah, there is probably something out there, somewhere, that would make this happen, but it was the weekend, and it was my weekend project, and by God I was going to make it happen!!!

    Here's the pics...

The reason for using one of the "slot to stock" screws was to allow me to keep one of the two sling swivel mounts for an actual sling. I started to use both sling attach points to mount the rail, but that would have taken both sling attach points. This is mo bettah. I did find an adapter at Liberty Arms that would fit in a slot, but the two sizes were 5/16 and 3/8", neither of which was the B&C width. Typical.

Tore the .260 R700 apart to get the barrel sent off to get cut down. A 28" bull barrel (1" at the muzzle) was a bit heavy. Also, it needs to be threaded. What good is having a can if I can,t attach it to everything.
Just doing what I can to stay on this side of the dirt.
