Interesting galleries. Except for the first pics in the Carolina swamps the others look like they could be of folks I know up in Ward or Gold Hill, Paonia or Buford.
There's a big advantage to having a getaway place that's within reasonable distance from where you live and work. Do you really want a place in bumfuz wyoming that takes 9 hours to get there and 9 more to get back? How often will you be able to go there and work on/invest in it. There are lots of affordable places within reasonable distance along the Front Range.
Fixing a place where you can live off the grid is good but there's much to be said for having electricity, running water and gas heat. Makes for a much more efficient, comfortable life. Self sufficiency, you bet! Gardening, hunting, preparing and storing your own food, firewood and other provisions are life sustaining skills. But to willingly give up benefits of electricity when it's available and cheap? That's just....well, not for me.
