I blame the iPhone. If he hadn't laid the iPhone openly on the table (bait for thieves) he wouldn't have been robbed. If he wasn't robbed, he would not have pursued. If he hadn't pursued, he would not have been attacked...
Of course it could be the Mall of America's fault as well as Starbucks.
One thing is for certain, no one should ever blame the thief or the attackers. They were juveniles.
