I got myself put in for deer and put in for preference point for elk (always go over-the-counter bull). I've got Second season already reserved at work for the time off (ahead of my hunting co-worker).

I put my son in for his deer and elk preference points too. Next year he'll start hunting with me and should have enough points to draw a deer permit.

I also bought my fishing/small game combo license today (I know, running a little late). I didn't get a chance to use it much last year (just went fishing a few times, no small game).

Like I say every year.... This year will be different!

    I am ready.

    put it for:

elk: muzzleloader, pref point, then archery either sex
    deer: archery
    moose: pref. point
    bear: pref. point
    sheep: pref. point
    goat: pref. point
    antelope: pref. point

should hopefully draw fall turkey, and I know I will get to hunt deer and elk this year!

I will have deer and elk I put in for a point for speed goats as with my schedule I don't know if I could hunt them or not.

I will buy an over the counter bear tag for deer season. I don't put in for sheep or mnt goats as that is like target practice rather than hunting.

Then of course there will be pheasants and P-dogs, yotes and what ever else I can hunt inbetween work and life.

I need to figure out how to apply in such a way that I get a preference point and still hunt where I want to. I haven't figured out how to work it yet. Essentially I need to apply in an area that I have no chance in hell of getting for my first choice and then put where I really want to hunt as my second choice right?

No, I've never hunted the Wet Mountains from this side.
I have hunted the other side in the valley. The San Luis Valley has tons of deer along the Wet mountains on that side. I hunted that when I was in College. Follow the road from the Sand Dunes into the wilderness area along the creek. Tons of deer.

There is deer everywhere around here and in Teller County.

We have a couple dozen deer walk down the property every afternoon-evening.
I hunt right in the office at my desk. I get up and grab the bow when they are close enough to shoot.

My goal is not to have to drive more than 15 minutes to go hunting for any big game species. No goats, bear, moose or sheep though. Sheep and bear are about 20 minutes away. Goats and moose are a good hour plus.
I say lets all remove the warning labels and let nature take its course.

I think I'm retarded cause I don't understand the point system. I put in for elk then for deer I put 1)pref point 2)buck. If I pull the buck tag does that mean no point? Or was there no point in putting a 2nd choice since I'm only getting a point?

there is a different app. for each species. elk, deer bear, moose, antilope.
so if you put in for elk, don't get first then you get a point, no points used for 2nd choice if you get that, and so on. Points only account when used for 1st choice drawing. And if you put in just for a point or don't get your 1st choice draw you get a point. and they continue to aquire for that species only. you can't use deer points for anything but deer, elk for elk, etc.
Deer same as above put in for 1st choice deer or for a point only put in second choice you may or may not get that but hope you see how this is working.
