I keep my firearms clean, including the bores. But, I don't over clean the bore. I usually run a wet patch, a dry patch, another wet patch, and one more dry patch and call it good.

Oh, and in case your buddy doesn't know any better, one of the worst things you can do is coat the bore with oil and then fire a shot. If he chooses to store the rifle with an oiled barrel, make sure he runs a dry patch through it before he takes it out to fire it.

Looks clean enough to me. Clean the chamber and action of carbon, light oil of choice, put it away.

try that foaming copper solvent. Squirt it down the bore and let it sit for the recommended time. Worked great on a .22 of mine.

Sweet's does work. But the stink is as bad as anything ever made.

Seriously, it's fine… Just shoot it and stop worrying about scrubbing the piss out of the rifling. Clean the chamber, clean the action, re-oil, done. Leave the rifling and throat alone. It will be just fine and live longer.
