Buy your replacement screen on eBay, watch a Youtube video on step by step to replace your screen. I did two of my laptops this way.

Just ordered a screen from Screen Surgeons, it was half the price of some of the local shops. A few bucks over some of the Ebay screens but the people there were extremely helpful. One local shop had a no return policy, if for whatever reason something isn't right Screen Surgeons will allegedly take it back, no restocking fee.

I pulled the screen out of the laptop last night, 10 minute job... max. No reason to pay anyone else do this. Did it on my reloading bench in the basement, tile floor and on an ESD mat just in case. I'll report back if I can or can't get it working again after I install the new screen.

Still don't know what happened to cause the screen to crack. The crack can be seen but not felt. Someone mentioned a thermal crack from excessive use. I do know the daughter was using it all weekend to watch a TV series.

Never heard of a "thermal crack". Screens can often crack because the case can be bent or flexed too far. Unless your laptop has a metal cover, you can likely flex the screen far enough to crack the display, without actually breaking the cover.

I hope it works for you!

Ensure that the mat, and the PC are all grounded to the same point; or you, by yourself, being on an ESD mat won't be quite as effective.

Typically, the DUT is also placed on a grounded mat or grounded conducting surface.

What I mention is the optimum setup...
I wouldn't lose any sleep over not being able to do this, though. Just keep in mind the concept of trying to minimize electrical potential between you and the DUT.

NOTE: The concept of the ESD mat is to ensure that there is no difference in electrical potential between you and the DUT. That is what would create the "Sparks".

DUT = Device Under Test (i.e. the PC)

IBM used to demo their Thinkpad's toughness (the titanium screen cover models) by standing on one. Worked great until one gal wore her stiletto high heels and punch a hole clean through one.

I also recall the guy slamming his hand on top of an old IBM PC-XT external hard disk drive enclosure (5MB!!)) to demonstrate the durability - until he crashed it hard.

My hinges broke on my laptop this weekend, which sent them into the corner of the screen and killed it. So I empathize with you. I ordered a new screen, hinges and screw kit on Ebay.

I sometimes go to ebay. But just to be safe I google the model number from the bottom of the laptop and include screen and you will get a lot more options. I got a OEM replacement screen from ebay once and from Amazon all for about 50 - 60 bucks. The replacement worked fine and the replacement was easy to do.
