Default K9 First Aid and CPR Class: Bailey 2/23/2014 9am-1pm

(I did get mod approval for posting this notice in GD. Thanks.)

Just an FYI for anyone interested. Don and I at PDSims.com are sponsoring a K9 First Aid and CPR class in Bailey on Feb 23rd. Class runs from 0900 to 1300 and cost is $60. Other than being allowed to attend the class we're not getting anything from this...just hosting it.

Click HERE for a detailed description of the class and other specifics including a link to register.

Class size is limited to 24 and seats are going quickly (down to 17 15 14 11 6 as of 01/21/2014) so, if you're interested, don't delay in signing up.

Are they going to teach how to set breaks and suture? Or is it going to be a get the dog quickly to the vet sort of deal?

We use actual Canine CPR manikins where people actually preform “mouth to snout” breathing and compressions. The class content covers over 20 First Aid items including: first aid kits, torn pads, dog fights, seizures, broken bones, electrical injuries, muzzling, and bleeding control and appropriate restraining of an injured animal. There is special attention to choking, bloat, and poisons. There are several hands on type skills and the relaxed open format is very conducive for learning.
That's about all I can tell you. I've never taken the class.

I'm not sure of my Feb schedule yet but this would be fun to do.

ETA: they do show how to splint broken bones, and everything else in his book.

If this is the same class that my wife attended, it's what you said. They covered basic CPR, identifying pulse areas, basic vitals, first aid, etc. triage to get them to the vet. I also think the coveted some burns 1st aid too.

To be sure though, contact the class instructor.

Thanks for the input, sellersm. Eric and his wife took one of our handgun classes and he seemed to be a really knowledgeable guy on the subject. Our dogs always seem to get sick/injured on Fri at 5pm just about the time all the vet clinics close and the emergency (aka: expensive) clinics open. Plus, we're at least 20 mins away from the nearest vet so we're taking the class in order to be an effective "first responder" for our dogs in an emergency.

Very good idea for those able to attend. If it were closer we'd probably go.

Still a little bit of a drive for us but depending on when they are if we're available we may try to make it down.
