Plex on Rasberry Pi.. Passes the wife test.
What is my joy if all hands, even the unclean, can reach into it? What is my wisdom, if even the fools can dictate to me? What is my freedom, if all creatures, even the botched and impotent, are my masters? What is my life, if I am but to bow, to agree and to obey?

Does Rasplex run Plex Channels yet? Once they cross that line I'll consider dumping my Rokus for Raspberry Pi boxes (just because I prefer a more open source solution ... so I don't have to worry about Roku taking something I like away like they did with the PowerBlock channel or the original YouTube channel).

There is alpha support in the experimental release. Its supposed to be there solid in the stable release (if it ever comes).

I run RaspBMC for the past year, streaming off a local NAS that houses all my ripped movies. I am in the process of switching to a beefy HTPC to play games on Steam and media.

I tried Plex and while it is a great package, I decided to stick with XBMC due to the fact I have more configuration options. Being able to stream my media from anywhere for $5 (cost of the iOS app) is pretty amazing, though. And the fact that it streams to Chromecast is killer, but more expensive ($3/mo or $75 forever).

For a basic home media PC, you can't beat the cost and options of a Raspberry Pi running Plex or XBMC.

    Interesting.

I went from a dedicated media PC to my Pi running Raspbmc. It seemed a cleaner, and easier, solution than the mediapc.

All my coworkers thought I was crazy when I built my 18tb NAS.

I have never been more jealous of another human being in my life.

Assuming you have that set up RAID somehow so it's not a full 18TB of storage space?

    Lol.

Using RaidZ2 in FreeNAS. Six 3tb Seagate NAS drives leaves me with 11tb of usable storage across 6 drives. I can lose 2 drives at a time and still maintain all my data.

Pretty slick little box that just sits there.

Just for redundancy I have Rsync setup to keep a copy of anything irreplaceable (documents, pictures, etc) on a different raid that is remote from my house.

As they should, you built it too small.
