How to dispose of a big heavy tube tv

We have a tv we need to get rid of, it does work well but we finally got a flat screen.
Dump won't take the tv, it's way to big and heavy to get it into a trash can. I've called around, Salvation Army, recyclers etc.
I'm not dumping it in a ditch. What are my options?
It works well, and has a working universal remote if anyone wants it.
