    I have done three on one particular passat and the customer has refused to buy it, this last time it cracked his lower crankcase. He ended up giving us the car as a crusher.

    I was thinking that the port in the block would likely be for an oil cooler line. The idea that when the cooler isn't used, an O-ring on the bracket doesn't strike me as the best idea, particularly when the oil is under pressure. Putting a bolt in the hole with a copper or aluminum crush washer sounds better to me.

    ...but then I would never think that a plastic oil pan was a good idea.

    Had they gotten the better go plant, they would have had the oil cooler, Anne not a stupid gasket.

    That is the gasket for the oil cooler style. Through the alternator bracket. If it doesnt have the oil cooler it doesn't have the little bridge in the middle, but it is still in the same spot.

    V8s in BMWs are always a pain. Straight 6 is much better.
