Crude? Maybe. So are the methods by which most criminals kill their victims. So I'd be all for hangings, too. I'll even buy the inaugural rope for the first hanging in Colorado.

A bit creepy but I always like finding out where the hanging tree is in towns.

Indeed. Very generous of you to provide the first rope.

I've wondered why we occupy ourselves with concern over how much pain the criminal feels. He goes to sleep and dies in a sterile environment having time to make himself right and say "goodbye."

Most of the time, the victims are alert in sheer panic and desperation, feeling the life being taken from their bodies. Some after seeing their loved ones murdered in the same way. None were given the opportunity to say goodbye to their loved ones or make arrangements.

Back when the Constitution was written, hanging and firing squads were not cruel and unusual, why are they today? In the arab world they perform public beheading, seems pretty quick and painless to me if the right equipment is used. The tried and true methods are the best.

There's a lot of calculation that goes into hanging. Too long of a rope, and the person's head just pops off. Too little, and they strangle to death.

I'm not seeing the issue here, anyone got a mop?

I know where the one in my hometown is located. It's easily visible from the parts of town that, in the times when hanging was used, needed to see someone hanged.

I always understood (and I fully admit that I may be wrong) that it's more of how far they drop... I think the correct dropping distance is about 24", so that it breaks the neck and severs the spinal column.

    Am I wrong in this?
