Default Question about buying a handgun

A friends dad was in rehab for alcohol and has been out for awhile now and doing great and is interested in getting a pistol. Is there anything that prevent him from owning one? He was never arrested for anything no DUIs no criminal record and his check in was voluntary.

Nothing on the 4473 addresses the issue.

If he was on probation for it he should get a release of disabilities from his probation officer or the judge that gave his sentence.

If he checked in Voluntarily then he was not committed and therefore should be just fine. No arrests, no convictions, no record that can be searched for a criminal BGC. I'd be shocked if it came up due to HIPPA.

Without the OP being specific on date of rehab, other than, been out for awhile now . It could apply or not. Like saying, my friends dad had a DUI. Last week, year, 15 years ago?
