Exclamation EU plan to stop cars remotely

Yet another reason to rehab my '99 rather than buy a new car ...

Documents obtained and leaked by civil rights group Statewatch outline a program being developed by the European Network of Law Enforcement Technologies that would “work on a technological solution that can be a ‘build in a standard’” for all automobiles.
it would give law enforcement officers working from a computer terminal the ability to press a button to kill the engine on any car equipped with the technology within the European Union

If it is electronic, it can be hacked. Then any yahoo walking down the street can kill the engine of your car for the heck of it or for more nefarious reasons.

That S#!7 just pisses me off. Plus, Kalifornia will be the one to make it mandatory for any car sold within the state, so ALL of use have to suffer, because the car MFGRs will have to comply.

Wad up the 4th Amendment, and throw into trashcan. What part of "Shall not be violated", or "Shall not be infringed", or "shall make no law" is a grey area?

Yes but they claim to only use it with the car owner's permission.

Since the car phones home, the legal discussion is going on right now. Sucks!

Although, with all the BS CAFE requirements, cars will soon be as much as a house payment so we won't be able to drive anyway...not to mention the cost of energy.
