I don't disagree with you and I don't excuse them for the path they put themselves on. If they had not taken the first step there would be no addiction for them or the pain and destruction they leave in their wake.
The problem with them driving any distance to see you is the reason they came. Unless they are in a 12 step program actually working the steps and are up to the 8-9 steps; they stopped by to get something from you. Usually money a place to stay or something else. They are the most accomplished liars in the world, well right next to politicians. They will use you until you are all used up and then come back for more. You can still love them or at least who they were before... But you will never be able to trust them, ever.

Am I the only one that finds a little but of irony here? He stated out children and streets would be safer if we banned guns, then dies of a heroin overdose... Did you hear the one about a kettle and a pot?

At this point, I'm actually pretty offended that the media has spent as much time on his self-inflicted death as it has. How about they move on to something of importance like where we stand on the investigation into improper use of the IRS or how the hell Lois Lerner qualifies for retirement vs. prosecution for malicious and illegal use of official powers?

I feel sorry for his kids, but I have no sympathy for drug users and the harm they inflict on themselves. Apparently he couldnt deal with real world issues the way most people do and felt drugs was his only way to cope. He was selfish to think of himself and not his family before sticking that needle in his arm. Was he really that great of an actor? Other than Capote the only thing I remember him in was Along Came Poly and "White Lightning!", other than that; irrelevant. Sad how the media celebrate his life and death and ignore the fact he was a hardcore drug user. Its not like you start on heroine, there was probably a lead up of abuse of other drugs ie: cocaine that lead him down this path. Sorry but not sad at all.
