Our forefathers had this discussion about language. Remember this was and is an immigrant country. At no time when I say that do I mean open the borders and let whoever in. I would also note that the some of the immigration rules are ridiculous, possibly created by an agency similar to the IRS. I have known legal and illegal immigrants. I can tell you that it upsets the immigrants that are here legally and went through the proper channels immensely that they were required to do it and there is no requirement, so it seems, for others. I can tell you that the immigrants that I know that came here legally are more American and patriotic than a lot of people I know. They are military service members and/or veterans. They wave the flag with pride. They vote. And the ones that remember the nations they came from, they are extremely conservative.

After watching the video I have to say that I am not so concerned about the white vs. another race thing. I am extremely concerned at the dismantling of my nation and our culture. We have a culture in our country and it is not just an adoption from other nations. You can ask immigrants this and they will tell you. I do believe they're is an agenda to assimilate us to be one thing and I think that goes much deeper than race or color.

This fact is not lost on me but it also isn't a fact that changes anything I've said. My ancestors came here from Germany & Russia and part of the coming here was learning the language. They actually took pride in learning the language as it was part of becoming accepted as an American among other Americans. Nobody wanted to NOT know English because they didn't want to stand out as not being American. Somewhere along the line we lost that pride in learning English and as a result I have to push 1 to get English instructions when I call a local store to find out if they have something in stock. My ancestors didn't expect instructions to be in English & German nor do we have instructions in EVERY language on earth so why Spanish? Seems to me if you genuinely wanted to be an American you'd want to speak the language and regardless of if it's been stated in ink somewhere the language here is English no matter what someone tries to convince you.

Part of the problem is that this is essentially what we've been doing but it's beside the point.

They're ridiculous for a reason. If it were simple then everyone who is here illegally would be here legally and we don't want that. We want those who have the motivation and drive to actually jump through a few hoops in order to EARN their citizenship. We want the smarter people who can fill out a form and make complex decisions. We don't want other country's rejects that will be a drain on our society because we already have enough of that. We want those who are willing to put in the effort to prove not only that they will be of benefit to our society but realize how important being a citizen actually is and that it's something that should be cherished and not taken lightly. Those who have gone through proper channels to do all of this are just as infuriated about the things I talk about as those who were born here and in most cases even more so because they of all people realize what an opportunity it is. Those people learn English and sing America the Beautiful in English.

So you're concerned about the dismantling of our nation and our culture but don't see where the English language or our treasured national anthems are part of this culture and even want to argue with me about it? Da fuh?

I wasn't really arguing as much as making some other points, including the point that there is no national language and this was brought up by our forefathers and discussed. Although it was in English, they had some reasoning as to not make English our national language. Mind you, German was a consideration of a national language as well.

But I'm not sure why someone can't be patriotic and love this country in another language. I think we as a nation give too much appeasement to immigrants, other languages, and other cultures that come here and refuse to adapt to ours at all. But, having some common sense in this, if we forced a complete surrender of other cultures what would we have left? Certainly not my family's spaghetti sauce recipe. My grandparents came here from Italy and loved this country very much as to volunteer during a major war. Almost every capable male that was of age fought in World War Two from my Italian side.

Again, I'm just pointing out that people bring cultures together to make our country great. The greater problem is the appeasement when immigrants demand certain things to be changed purely to benefit their culture, whereas my Italian relatives adapted to the change and kept the parts that they wanted to. They even spoke Italian at home and some of the older family members couldn't speak English at all.

I think there is a lot more of a problem than allowing people to speak a different language in country that has no national language.

ETA: Also, I want to point out that at I am contacting FT. Collins HS to tell them I don't agree with them and I encourage everyone to do the same. My point all along is that we should be Americans, but that doesn't mean that you have to give up who you are.

I did send a polite e-mail to ft. Collins H.S. stating that celebrating America is very politically correct. and people should love America or leave it. Got a pretty long reply back, saying there was a misunderstanding with the public and they were surprised there was such an outpour from the public....

In other words they were testing to see if they could get away with it and now are back peddling because someone is paying attention for now.

When did I say you have to give up who you are? Were you singing America the Beautiful in your native tongue in your home country? Not likely.

Okay, we are obviously not getting anywhere. I did not say that I spoke Italian and if I sang at all I would sing it in my Native tongue, which is how we are communicating now. I was born here in the US and my family's first and only language at this point is English. I was only trying to point out that when my extended family came here they did not all speak English. I wasn't trying to get into a major debate only point out a few other aspects. You are obviously very upset about the non-English Coke commercial and I definitely see your point. I am just not offended. I personally think you are upset at the wrong thing and I am willing to bet that we are in more agreement than you realize.

KevDen, Jers points are similar to most of our reactions to "common sense gun control regulations". Little bites on our freedoms until the whole 2A is meaningless and we all look around and say "How we get here?" Or " I just hunt why does someone need an AR? No one needs to be armed that is what the police are for" and on and on.

We see how the little steps have progressed in states like NY and CA and did not want CO going anywhere close to that, the same is true for political correctness especially in our schools. This double talk sticks out and needs to be resoundly bitch slapped back like we did with 3 out of work Dems.

I agree with other posters the kids should organize over social media and show 'Merica in the positive light and the beacon to the world. God these are the times I wished I had kids of my own. Hope someone here has kids in that school and can keep us posted.

I am not disagreeing with you. All I am saying is, what I gathered from the video, and others, is that being white and American are one in the same and I don't think it has to be that way. I do believe in reverse racism, and I do believe that our government often turns our cultures against one another. And I do believe that political correctness is bad and will destroy this country. All I wanted to do was bring up instances in which peoples from other nations came here to be patriotic and they did not speak the native language. They have been doing for hundreds of years now, really.
