oh sure so the officers on scene could notice that the the first two digits of the plate were the same but not the fact the truck was BRIGHT FUCKING BLUE and not Grey ?

That number leads me to think they reloaded at some point. Why did they keep shooting?, -I can't imagine the two newspaper delivery women were sending anything harmful their way during those 103 rounds...

Perhaps you are unaware that people switch license plates.
If there's a BOLO for a red truck, lic plate ABC-123 and i see a blue truck with partial plate legible ABC, i'd like to know who the occupants are. Would i open fire on unidentified occupants, no.

8 officers shooting… guess we're lucky they didn't blow all 128 rounds loaded in one long frenzy. (presuming 15rd issue beretta 92 magazines, and one in the pipe).

yes i am aware they switch plates.... as Dorner had switched to the "8D plate" from his " legal" plate.

But why would someone trained as a police officer switch his likely to be known plate to a fresh truck? wouldn't it make a ton more tactical sense to show up in a clean car AND clean plates?

Reading the report they knew it was blue and not grey and fired anyways. It seems we have a classic case of "scenario fulfillment" here. they WANTED it to be Dorner so no matter the conflicting facts they saw it as Dorner anyways.

Thanks, I see a few mentions of firepower in there.

A general statement in the Tactics section
Additionally, the investigation revealed that none of the officers assigned to the detail were equipped with police rifles at a location that was deemed a high priority. The officers were aware that the suspect had extensive military training and already attacked and killed officers with an assault rifle earlier that morning. As a result, the officers were equipped with inferior firepower and were at a significant tactical disadvantage. The presence of officers equipped with police rifles was warranted.

Hard to argue with that, the man they were after was using a rifle.

One of the officers did take a rifle out of the trunk but apparently did not fire it.

    Then there is this
    4. Equipment/Deployment of Rifles – In this incident, deployment of patrol rifles and possibly slug shotgun(s) would have provided additional firepower and increased tactical advantage during a lethal attack.
No, in this incident everyone having rifles would have resulted in 2 dead.

In CA the first number rarely changes so they verified a partial match with 1 matching digit.

...and was a Toyota, not a Nissan.

Nice to see that the shoot first, identify second, process has accountability, eh?
