If I'm ever at a party and the cops come to arrest people. Ill blindfold myself, throw the ball gag in, handcuff my hands, and hide in a closet. Police never arrest hostages!

Good lookin' truck man! Excellent choice and you'll be happy with that one for quite a few years.

Ouch.... Wish you good luck.... My 5th Gen 4 runner (same as yours, but 2010 and limited) has been a POS since I got it.... I will be trading it soon.

    In short:
Poor gas mileage (17 in town)
poor engine performance (spend an extra 400$ and get an after market air box)
    tranny is slow to react
    electrical problem galore
turn radius is worse than some full size pickup

I think the worst for me is the lack of power....

Don't waste your money on an air intake. At most throw in an AFE Pro Dry drop-in but the factory intake is about as efficient as you can get. $400 is a waste of money on the 4.0L V6. You should expect high teens and possibly 20mpg for mpg and that's not 'poor gas mileage' and if that's a concern you shouldn't buying a 4x4 SUV in the first place. The transmission 'learns' how you drive so if you drive around like a grandpa mostly and then expect it to snap into action the few times you mash it you may be a little bit let down if you expect F1 shifts. I have the 6spd auto and have no complaints with the performance for a pick-up truck. Turn radius in the 4Runner is slightly longer than others but it is an SUV after all. I also find it funny that the first thing you list is poor fuel economy (indicating that it's a big deal) and then the last thing you say is that the worst is lack of power. Well, which do you want? You can throw a supercharger on it but that's not going to help your fuel economy. Based on your wants it sounds to me like you'd be happier with a mid-size sedan with a 4cyl rather than a 4x4 SUV. Other than your electrical problems (feel free to post some examples) if you think the 4Runner is poor in the categories you listed drive the competitor's offerings and you'll likely change your tune. As compared to other SUVs in it's segment the 4Runner actually does quite well in the categories you've listed and also includes reliability and resale value unmatched by it's competition.

My previous vehicle was a AWD 4.5 V8 that got about 13 in the city, 17 would be amazing for me.
I do admit my Fx45 had about 350-400hp but I never took advantage of it because gas was $4 a gallon. Also if you want a fast SUV you dont buy a 4runner, thats what the SRT8 Jeeps, Trailblazer SS are for. But then again with that power you have to have street rated tires so now you cant go offroad.
If I need quick reaction on the tranny I will just pop it into tiptronic.
I figured the electrical problems might be an issue, so I got the 6 year/100000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. Just in case.
If I find that the turning radius is horrible, I will just start doing 1 tire fires to help me out a bit.

    I appreciate your opinion though.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Xterra as an option. As a new Xterra owner, I thought it was very competetive with the 4Runner. I made my final decision based mostly on the trade-value that the Nissan dealership would offer me over what the Toyota dealership was willing to offer. I am used to driving a 1500 series silverado, and the Xterra so far has been an improvement in just about every way except for the obvious lack of a pickup bed. The 4Runner handled very similarly.

I went from a 4.8L Silverado to a 5.7L Tundra... I was extra worried about MPGs when I bought it!

You don't buy a big 6 or 8 cylinder 4x4 for MPG.... lets be serious here.
