I have a 2010 FJ I brought brand new. Bad parts as mentioned: rear visibility is bad but adding the stick on convex mirrors helps a lot. Windshields have the reputation of being easy to crack due to them being fairly vertical, but I think that's more due to driving habits; my windshield is original. No heated seats/mirrors/windshield and I do admit to missing those! Gas mileage for me has been 18-19 MPG with 33" equivalent tires and mixed highway/city driving. The rear doors are inconvenient for pax and car seats. I'd prefer a horizontally split rear door like the old Cruiser wagons, but the door is huge, so it's easy to load oversized items. I wouldn't say it's gutless exactly, but it's definitely hurt by (the lack of) aerodynamics and it's weight. Mine has 260'ish hp and 271 lb-ft of torque new and I can accelerate up Floyd Hill/Vail Pass no problems other than watching the gas gauge needle move. I've had no unscheduled mx since I've owned it, though I got rid of the stock tires at 600 miles and put on KM2s...much better for my purposes. FJ's are excellent off road out of the box, moreso if modded. I won't comment on the Rubicon since I haven't driven one except to say I believe you could build a much more capable FJ for the same money as the most basic Rubicon ($27680 MSRP FJ vs. $35095 MSRP Rubicon). The 2014 model year will be the last for the FJ Cruiser in the US, not sure about the rest of the world. Let me know if you have specific questions or want to check it out in person.
