    Default Officer Shoots dog

Not police bashing, but this dog was doing what dogs do. http://www.guns.com/2014/02/11/dashc...ice-dog-video/

On top of that the officer was an ahole on how he handled the aftermath. Dont belive this officer is a professional at all.

Maybe unprofessional, but definitely shook up. Sounded like that was a tough call for him and it took a couple of minutes to get his shit together. If I hear my dog growling, barking, and going after someone on my lawn, you can bet I'm not going to ignore it.

As someone who as trained (Schutzhund, etc.) dogs and had large dogs (GSD, Rotties, Dobies, Mastiffs, etc). for years - there was NOTHING aggressive about that dogs posture. Zero.

Even worse it was a poor shot.

The cop needs a swift kick in the ass.

Many people are afraid of dogs or hold the opinion they are "just an animal" but with a cell phone and a radio there were other options. If the call was "animals on the loose" where was Animal Control? The dogs should not have been loose in an unconfined area to start with but kicking at the dog then shooting the dog wouldn't be my first choice versus getting back in your car and calling Animal Control or even the owner. Being "loose" and "presenting an immediate threat" are not necessarily the same thing, most notably the former allowing the opportunity for an alternate resolution. The most uncomfortable thing in the video was the fact it wasn't a clean shot and the dog was obviously suffering, hell you already shot it why not finish it as opposed to letting it suffer?

I don't have audio on my computer so I didn't hear the aftermath though I do know many on here advocate any form of retreat, remove yourself, call for assistance, etc. in regards to CHL reserving deadly force as a last and final resort, are those options unavailable to the Officer? Not cop-bashing just think maybe there were other choices left before resorting to killing the dog.

edit: for the rest of us that love dogs - link

I couldn't watch after the initial kick by the officer at the black/brown dog. What service is the dog doing for the owner if its outside barking at something. I have a service dog. She stays inside and ready to fill her purpose. I absolutely hate hate HATE animal cruelty.

What would I have done? Used the fancy loudspeaker on the car. Maybe the sirens. People will come out if there are sirens, possibly someone with whom the dogs are familiar.

There were options besides just being on some guy's lawn shooting at their dogs.

Since the owner was so concerned that his 9-yr-old could see, maybe send said child out to restrain the dogs.

Plenty of options for both sides.
Just doing what I can to stay on this side of the dirt.

I knew it was going to piss me off but I clicked the link anyway. Maybe someday I'll learn.

It looked to me like the adage "if the only tool you know how to use is a hammer, everything will look like a nail" might apply to that guy.

There was plenty of stupid on this one. The owner was absolutely an idiot for not coming out to restrain his dog; the dog shouldn't have been out there anyway. The officer should have called animal control instead of escalating the situation by getting out of his cruiser. Poor dog was left to bleed out; that sucked! ...that was truly an asshole thing to do. They should have done the paperwork after attending to the poor animal.

There are a few dogs who come off their property where I live. I've had a few greet me in a threatening way, but they usually go home with a stern response from me. I haven't had to pull on one yet.
