"Devil's advocate" basically means that one is taking the opposing viewpoint, whether he/she agrees with that viewpoint or not, for the sake of discussion or debate.
I find it curious that the "devil's advocate" thread started out just that way, but over time the OP made it clear, like others have pointed out, that he was not, in fact, merely playing the devil's advocate. If I recall correctly he even made a statement to the effect that the "preexisting condition" part of O-care was one of the few things about O-care with which he agreed.
Now maybe I'm not clear in what he meant in his post above, but it sounds like the whole "preexisting" thing is taking a bite outta his ass...and his wallet. That's why I said what I said. You may not like it, tmleader, but that's what I meant. Apparently others thought it meant the same thing. The point behind my post was to be careful what you wish for.
