That part is well taken - the part I feel bad about is all the waste and inefficiencies this creates. Regardless of what the various opinions on whether or not we should have it.
In other words, I feel bad because of the positive aspects of this discussion, I'm less concerned with the normative.

You do not know what the phrase devils advocate means. I have been very clear on that. So have you quite honestly.

And I have actually talked, in person, with Ridge on a regular basis.

One single point of favor in a 11000 page bill does not mean you are for the bill. I realize agreeing with one line in it makes it clear to YOU that he is completely for the entire bill.

"Devil's advocate" basically means that one is taking the opposing viewpoint, whether he/she agrees with that viewpoint or not, for the sake of discussion or debate.

I find it curious that the "devil's advocate" thread started out just that way, but over time the OP made it clear, like others have pointed out, that he was not, in fact, merely playing the devil's advocate. If I recall correctly he even made a statement to the effect that the "preexisting condition" part of O-care was one of the few things about O-care with which he agreed.

Now maybe I'm not clear in what he meant in his post above, but it sounds like the whole "preexisting" thing is taking a bite outta his ass...and his wallet. That's why I said what I said. You may not like it, tmleader, but that's what I meant. Apparently others thought it meant the same thing. The point behind my post was to be careful what you wish for.

Yeah, it is kind of weird, right?
I don't know it. And a couple of other people seem to be using the same working definition and assumptions.

Usually, when I find that I am the only one with a particular thought on something pretty common, I go back and double check all my assumptions on it.
But you shouldn't bother to do that. I'm sure you are right and everyone else is wrong.

This is not the realization I would have come to, personally.
It is one point I found in 3 minutes of looking.
There were several subsequent points he also liked, and that was brought up.

But I guess I'm using everyone else's definition of "Devil's Advocate."

The pre-existing condition from his post was actually covered once the insurance company got its head out of its ass. Clearly stated in that post. Not certain how that applies to the other thread. Considering he probably had this insurance plan from before the ACA was active. But ok. I see how what you want is to have not a devils advocate, but a devil.

How long is the bill? 11000 pages. There is probably some line or three in that thing that I would like. Doesn't mean I like or am for the bill.

If you'd stop being so arrogant for just a moment and try to understand what's being said rather than telling everyone else why they don't know what they're talking about it would be helpful.

He mentioned his premiums had tripled over his old plan. It sounded to me like that could've been due to the preexisting condition.

Ah...the old "I know you are but what am I" excuse. Pee Wee Herman would be proud.

So why don't you give us your definition of "devil's advocate"? That might explain some things.
