    Default Dog Bite

So today I was trying to anodize some lowers (total failure). Meanwhile I was taking out the trash, Got attacked by a dog. It was on a leash but owner could not controll it. Came running up to powerscooter as I was holding out my arm/hand to show that I was friendly and that bastard bit me on the arm.
Problem is it broke skin and took some flesh and is right next to my access for Dialysis.

so now I have to call a couple of Drs. and report to Dialysis clinic.
Apt complex managers are trying to figure out who it is, but I'm worried about rabies.

    Any experience in this?

    Thanks
    Roger

Most folks don't keep rabid dogs around the house

If owner is found and reported, the dog will be quarantined for 7 days. And if it is the dogs second or third offense, it will be put down. You should go to a Dr. and let them know you were bit. They will irrigate and disinfect the wound, also the police will be called. The owner of the dog needs to be found and the dog needs to be checked out. Dog bites should not be taken lightly.

I'm surprised you didn't call the police.

You also will need to get a Tetanus shot, especially since it broke the skin, but your doc will tell you that.

Speak for yourself. I squirt a little Dawn into their mouths so they look extra rabid.

If the owner left the scene without giving any info, I would report it to the police. +1 on having a doctor look at it. Dog bites can get infected and that is no fun.

You need to keep an eye on the bite for any red around any puncture wounds. Draw around any red with a pen. If it grows, you are risking blood poisoning. You're looking at ER antibiotics in several doses about 6 hours apart.

If it was recent enough and you can flush the wound with Bactine or similar, it might stave it off.

It happened to my Fiancee' a few years ago. Once it set in, she had a heated blanket maxed out with me laying on top of her to keep heat and she was still shivering. We ended up with 3 trips to the ER for it.

Thanks everyone. When I go to clinic on Monday for Dialysis I plan on mentioning it. Also calling my primary Dr to tell them and seek advise. Also calling apt managers to see if they have located the owner.
Just want to find out if dog had rabies shot or not. Not trying to get anyone in trouble, but worried about the kids that run around here getting bit.

Damn Roger, it's sad to think that meeting me was the highlight of your day!
Doing a little research: Last year in El Paso County 2 foxes down by the zoo were found with rabies, and the year before a single case of a bat. So it's very very rare, and I haven't seen any cases in pets in anything I can find, so that's good news.
But I do hope they find the dog involved, and it's as simple as finding out that the dog does have its up to date rabies shot.

    2013: 2 (2 foxes – first cases reported west of Interstate 25)
    2012: 3 (3 bats)
    2011: 15 (5 bats, 1 fox, 9 skunks)
    2010: 17 (8 bats, 4 foxes, 5 skunks)

Thanks Chad. It was a pleasure meeing you today. Yea it was right after I met you.

And no I didn't kick the dog. should have kicked the owner. Couldn't tell if owner was male or female. Dressed like a dude but female voice and haircut like a dude. I was all confused on that. LOL

I'm more worried about others getting bit as the owner could not control the dog. Also never seen them around so that may indicate that they are new to the complex.
