Don't underestimate moose- while this wasn't a large one, more people are killed in Canadia by Moose than by bear.... they can be very dangerous.

That being said, having been that close (before the charge) to moose in Alaska before (and much bigger), I think he could have done many other things to avoid killing the moose. I agree with others that he was impatient... I wouldn't charge him with a crime, but I just don't think it was the best judgement.

Actually Yes you can, nearly EVERY new model sled has reverse, and I KNOW FOR A FACT that 09-2011 Ski-doo he was riding has reverse. He was on a packed trail, the Moose was on that trail for a reason (it's easier walking). Ect.

    Just sayin.

Not having one chambered was a poor choice.

hopefully he called DOW and let them know what happened and didn't just leave it.

    other than that, good shoot

Anyway, good thing the moose wasn't this aggressive.

What, all the new sleds have reverse, now I know I'm old, I'm just not familiar with the new sleds. I've owned four different ones over the years and we had access to Yamaha demos back in the day, pre 2000. Reverse was an option that nobody I rode with wanted due to the extra weight, reverse required a transmission. Reverse was something that was always on rental sleds though, I was told tourists expect to back up. My comment about a bear was just that I don't think a bear would give up until you were dead and never would have backed off like the moose did. Therefore, you would not have a chance to chamber a round with a bear, I know a moose is just as deadly.

Yeap, its now done with no weight penalty or mechanical complexity. You hit a button and it kills the ignition and fires again at a drasticly advanced timing right before it stops running. This literally fires the motor backwards and it starts running in reverse rotation. Obviously this is only done on 2strokes but that still encompasses roughly 85% of current sales. The 4 stokes still need a "gearbox" to accomplish it.
