I think it tilts towards the candidates but I also think there are plenty of people who won't vote for the GOP candidate because he is for or against ________________________.

Using my previous example, I utterly disagree with Senator Brophy on illegal aliens; however I agree with Senator Brophy on many other topics. I would vote for Senator Brophy despite that one exception. Like Bailey Guns said, if you're waiting for the perfect candidate, you'll be waiting an eternity.

I do not want to vote for Beauprez, I think he will be a horrible candidate and only slightly better than the looper, if he wins the primary I cannot say if I will or won't though.

I guess my question is : Why the fuck does the GOP seem determined to shoot themselves in the foot by alienating not only the middle ground voters, but even their own supporters, by putting forth candidates that are absolutely unelectable (Maes, for instance). It seems like they go out of their way to find someone that is so extreme that they manage to drive voters that might otherwise be receptive to a conservative candidate away. I would love to see them put forth a strong fiscal conservative that could manage to make it through a news conference without stepping on their dick and alienating whole sectors of voters.

At this point I'm leaning towards wanting to take a can of gas to the whole thing. The GOP has lost touch and most of them are just (D) lite. Let it burn.

This is the prime reason we're in the mess we're in now... Look at what happened on the national level in 2008- two groups of D's, team Obama, team Hilary. Hilary got knocked out, so her team came over and voted for Obama. Meanwhile, in 2012, the GOP and other non-Dem voting people were all rallying for either Paul or Romney (for the most part), Paul got screwed over at the RNC (another conversation for another time), and so many didn't like Romney so they just wrote in something or voted for someone else... Bam! 4 more years of Obama. Now, I anticipate the same thing will happen here with the gubernatorial race. You'll have the idiots (er excuse me, Democrats) voting for Hick, then you'll have whoever gets the nod in the primaries to run against him. From the several groups supporting the other candidates you'll have many who will jump behind the R candidate, then you'll have the same kind of people that will be all butthurt over their candidate not making it, or the winning candidate isn't this or that, has these policies they don't like, has a funny looking face, doesn't like cats, whatever excuse people will make, and then we get 4 more years of Hickenpooper. Then, oh look, the dems are going to introduce a bill to register your guns, just like CT, and the governor will sign off on it because he won the election thanks to so many who stayed home, or protest voted, or said "what's the difference between the two anymore?" or did whatever to "punish" the GOP and Colorado becomes California Part II. Thanks. And I can't move to WY yet.

Yep, Ronin is correct. We've made perfect the enemy of good.

I agree, the Dems will rally behind whoever is the nominee. I'm sure the hard Hillary supporters were a little bummed their candidate didn't make it, but it didn't stop them from voting for Obama. Many of the Repubs start complaining and abandon ship and the Dem gets elected.

The fundamental problem is that liberals/Democrats/progressives are all group-thinkers that make their voting decisions almost solely on "in-grouping" whereas conservatives/libertarians/Republicans tend to make their voting decisions on ideology, ideas and policies regardless of whether it wins them friends or makes them popular with the "cool kids".

So when the lefty gets a candidate they don't really agree with, they still vote for them because they want to be "in-grouped" with their fellow leftists (or more to the point they don't want to be "out-grouped" by them ... this is typical of r-selective creatures).

(to understand what I'm talking about here, I recommend you read this article ... and then the 7 segments that follow)

Irrespective of how people on firearms forums lean, the vast majority of the populace isn't basing their voting on what others do within their private lives. Until the GOP puppet-masters figure that out, they'll continue to take second place in a two party system.

The bulk of women want a bunch of old white guys (of which I am one of) telling them how to run their reproductive systems about as much as I want Eric Holder telling me what guns I can own.
