Hell even if was fully pressurized it could have sat on the water for a week or more since no one was looking for it within a few thousand miles of where it may have gone down. My point is, with the autopilot on it could have very easily landed on the surface and then simply sunk all in one piece.
Sully while he did an amazing job, sank the airplane by not pushing the ditching pushbutton. Doing so would have kept that plane floating instead of it sinking into the Hudson over time before they could retrieve it. But in that position I probably wouldnt have remembered either, and can't armchair quarterback doing what he did with what he had, just wanting to point out that the plane would have stayed afloat had that button been pushed.

another thought and a random guess could be he went high to knock everybody out while on oxygen and de pressurizing the plane. Then got down and ditched it in the water near a boat. He sinks the plane full of unconscious people, climbs out the window to the boat and sails into the sunset. The reason behind doing such is anyone's guess. One thing I question is if he turned the ELT off if it would still activate with enough g force or once it hit water.

And if the plane was depressurized while on an altitude hold before it glided into the water with everyone already asphyxiated several hours back? I am doubting that button got hit in this situation.

But you do bring up a good point here as that functionality is built into modern airliners. I do question if it really works though and for how long. I mean that plane could still be floating down by Antarctica at the moment.

    1. US Space Command ceased to exist as such in 2002 when it was merged into US Strategic Command. STRATCOM -- through JFCC-Space -- now has the responsibility for tracking the 20,000+ objects known to be orbiting the Earth.
    2. Spacecraft are not omnipotent. They would have to have a pass over the area during good light conditions and cloud cover can obscure what would otherwise be a good pass. Assume all overhead imagers were grabbing every frame they could -- someone would have to combing through all that imagery to find the golden picture. For all we know, someone is STILL combing through pictures.
    3. The "Miracle on the Hudson" is a bad analogy. Sully brought his plane down more or less intact because he was in control to keep angle of attack while reducing his flight speed. If MH 370 was on autopilot until the end, it would have plummeted from altitude when the fuel ran out. It is highly unlikely it would have maintained an attitude to minimize stresses on the airframe when it hit the water.

I was actually implying intentional depressurization by the pilot/pilots/terrorists.

they out on their oxygen masks, then depressurize. They remain conscious, knock out/kill everyone in the back. Then ditch the plane and sink it. Jut another theory but would explain why it wasn't found if it's at the bottom of the ocean.

One thing you don't... the hassle and cost of retasking an imagery satellite... Just sayin'.

Sniper, its pretty common knowledge that hitting the ""ROAP" button is part of the process. If someone says they paid attention during the ditching portion of recurrent they're lying. I'm didn't know that the triple had one. That being said Sully probably had the first "successful" under slung ditching in history. It had never happen before. A half degree of tilt would spin and crack that thing like an egg. A gentle, level wing, flame out glide to the ocean surface without someone at the controls is impossible.

Seriously, I hope they find something solid and definitive soon, for the sake of all the crew and passengers families. Those people have got to be going insane over this, they deserve to know WTF happened for God's sake. I can't even imagine what they're going through.
