Also, in regard to the light giving away your position debate I will say this. Unless your house is completely pitch black, (blackout curtains, no streetlights, no ambient light at all) your position is already given away. Silhouettes are fairly visible in most "dark" houses.
My position will be given away, because I'll be crouched next to a really, really loud 120 lb Rottie.

I have a GSD mix that hopefully dissuades any would-be invaders... I would hope your rottie does the same

I also see the argument for 5.56: most jacklegs go pull a box of WWB 55 FMJ off the shelf at Wal-Mart and call it good. Remember; most of us on this board know 90%+ more than the typical Joe Blow.
I see your logic in using a pistol here- and agree. The people that say "don't use an AR, use a shotgun" I consider to be somewhat one-track-minded, and sure, they might be able to use a shotgun effectively in a home, but what if I'm working nights, my 5'3" girlfriend is home alone, and a stranger busts in? She can't use a shotgun effectively (we've tried), but an AR is a thing of ease and my Glock's grip is a little large for her feminine hands. I'd feel very comfortable leaving the AR where she can get to it.

It's not too hard to hear someone tiptoeing around, if you stop and listen.

That's why I'm firmly in the "LIGHT GOOOOOOD! napster bad" camp. If you can't tell what you're shooting at, then you absolutely should not be shooting at it.

The mines are hard to detect.

    As for the claymores, well.

The "accidental" vs "negligent" discharge debate got old a long f'ing time ago. For awhile, I saw the point but now its just trolling as far as I'm concerned.
