Default El Paso County Sheriff Candidates and Form 4s

So I've sent the following email to both Jim Reid and Bill Elder's campaigns. I'll post their responses (if any) when I get them.

I would like to know what Mr. ________'s policy will be regarding CLEO sign-off on BATFE Form 4 submissions (to purchase NFA registered firearms).

Will he continue the policy of Sheriff Maketa, who signs Form 4s? Or will he take the elitist and anti second amendment position of other Sheriff's in the state and refuse to sign off on them, thus preventing law abiding citizens of El Paso County from purchasing suppressed, short barreled or full automatic firearms legally under the National Firearms Act?

Thanks in advance for your response.
It looks like Former Sheriff Anderson may have thrown his hat in the ring (in which case I count Reid and Elder's chances as significantly diminished). I don't find a web site or email for him so I have no way to ask him the same question, but its my understanding that he signed off on them before.
(EDIT: I've been told he didn't sign off on suppressors ... if so then screw him, but I'd rather hear it from him).

Maketa has actually endorsed Anderson even though there is no love there are all. In fact it is the opposite of love.... maybe just a little respect.

Anderson signed off on my first machineguns, but I was a SOT after that before I got my first suppressor, so don't remember if Anderson signed off on those or not.

Although info is hard to find, my understanding is that Maketa endorsed Anderson (who has not officially entered the race yet) to metaphorically kick Elder in the junk.

From their websites, Elder and Reid sound very similar. Reid kinda looks like a sleazy mobster, and Elder might actually be a sleazy mobster. It's hard to say. They both say they'll support 2A and CCW etc, but will they be outspoken to defend the Constitution like Maketa? Will they recognize their role as public servants and serve the people of El Paso County's best interests?

Sheriff Maketa posted this on his facebook wall today:

    IMPORTANT MESSAGE:
I first must thank each of you for your complete support. I have experienced the greatest honor a servant can experience, and that is the support from real people and caring citizens like you. I have had to bite my tongue many times over the last several months as to not, in any way, jeopardize the Colorado Sheriff's gun lawsuit. Your 2nd Amendment rights are far too important at this historic time. Having said that, as you know, I am term limited and January 12, 2015, will be my last full day in office. As promised, I will stand by my commitment to see the gun lawsuit to its end. I am scheduled to testify in the upcoming trial and still hold standing as a plaintiff.

With that said, I am now asking for your support. Even if you are out of state, you can help me by making a campaign contribution of $20, 25, 50, 100 or even $1000 to the Friends of John Anderson campaign for El Paso County Sheriff. He is the man who will build on my legacy and my message. John is the one experienced candidate who seeks to replace me. He is not limited by campaign finance limits, although he cannot accept corporate donations. Personally, I would prefer to have $25.00 from 2,000 people than $50,000 from one person, and so would John.

I am deeply invested in who becomes the next El Paso County Sheriff because I care about handing my life-work to someone with integrity, experience, commitment and leadership ability and no one cares about this county and our citizens’ rights more than me. While the job of sheriff largely deals with law enforcement and public safety, I want to also insure that the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office remains an organization committed to protecting all constitutional rights of its citizens, enforces the law and serves the public using facts, understanding, compassion and fairness. The role of sheriff should be filled by someone who sees themselves as a servant to the public and is willing to take tough positions to do the right thing. I will stand by the man who will stand you and uphold the oath of office that I have stood by, even under tremendous criticism from local media. With that in mind, I have made the decision to endorse and fully support my predecessor, John Anderson, because he has proven himself over many years to be the kind of man that will continue my work and stay committed to each of you.

I worked for John and came up through the ranks under his tenure. I know him well and fully stand by his character, integrity and vision. He came into the race late, out of concern for the kind of person Elder is and the gap in Reid's experience. John Anderson first attempted to join me in standing behind the person we both had hoped would enter this race, but she has elected to bypass this opportunity due to private reasons, on the heels of personal tragedy.

I have stood by my oath and our citizens' rights, and now I ask you to stand by me, so my efforts will continue. Please join me, my wife, my faithful undersheriff, and a man I have long respected and adored, the sheriff who hired me, Retired Sheriff Bernard Barry, in supporting John Anderson as my successor.

The first step will be to attend the Republican caucuses this Tuesday in El Paso County. Please stand with me and become a delegate to the County Assembly. Call the Republican Party Headquarters at 578-0022, or visit their website www.caucus.cologop.org, if you are uncertain of your precinct and caucus location. Becoming a delegate is so important and truly is the grassroots process to insure our future freedoms and rights are protected at the county, state and national level. Many of you have asked what you can do to help, and I haven't asked a lot of all of you up to this point, but I am now reaching out to each of you and asking that you stand beside me for our future. Please attend your caucus and let's send a message, statewide and nationally

In addition, please "like" John's Facebook page. Next and most importantly, send a contribution you can personally afford, to Friends of John Anderson at P.O. Box 1684, Monument, CO 80132. If you have questions, call his headquarters at (719)484-9643, or message me. John will have his website, Friendsofanderson.com, up very soon as well.

Time is running out, so please stand by me right now and let's send the message that speaking up for citizens is the right thing to do! WE NEED YOU NOW!!

    Sincerely your servant and voice,

    Terry Maketa

Jim Reid will sign form 4s, just asked him tonight. Also wants to figure out a way to speed up the CHP process. Just a data point, don't know if I'm supporting him yet.

I'm frankly disappointed that I haven't got a response from any of them.

Maybe the whole "elitist and anti second amendment" thing made you sound like a kid throwing a tantrum? Way to sound like an adult there.

Got to talk to Bill Elder at our division meeting today; he's good to go with Form 4s and added he'd rather see constitutional carry (or whatever you want to call it) in Colorado -- In other words do away with CHPs completely. Was kinda surprised he'd volunteer such information (though the 1911 on my hip might have had something to do with it ).

For reasons other than that (even though that in itself is a good reason) I'm leaning towards Elder.
