Or the MI optics hand guard unit. I run the regular railed unit, with an AK side scope mount.

Ha, I just ordered one of those earlier today. They reviewed very well and look great IMO.

A standard akm side mount doesn't always work on a pap rail since they are a little different the rail on a pap can be modified do a google search for yugo pap side rail or something like that and there's threads on ak files about it

Good to know, thanks. I knew that the handguard and stock were different....are there any other parts that I should know about that differ from other AK's?

That MI unit is too short for the yugo. It barely covers the gas tube on a regular length AK.

Yeah, I noticed that too so I had to search for the M70 specific model which I eventually found.

The problem with the side rail is the mounts sit a little farther back so after market mounts that are raked forward more that average seem to work better. I've been researching this because I'm wanting to get a yugo m77 pap .308 eventually

Ive had several railed forearms. The midwest is quality but will only co witness with the specific mount since it leaves the stock gas tube in place. Dont hang anything off the bottom rail if you want to load fast making it useless and pointy.

The rails are heavier than the stock counter parts. Some wiggle even when tightened down. Some wiggle loose since thst area gets hot.

As racheal ray pointed out the side mount options can be clunky since most are ar15 designs adapted over to the ak.
