So I was feeling weird about suiting up for this job for two reasons: 1) It's a field job where you get VERY dirty. 2) It's an internal application. It's stupid to me to suit up when the person you're interviewing with sees you around the office in regular attire, if not every single day.

My inside intel has let me know that suits bug this guy. Someone from outside the company (with more experience than me) recently applied and this guy was annoyed that he wore a suit. That's fortunate for me, but I can't blame the guy because there is no way I'd apply at an office and not suit up if I didn't already work there.

Anyway, we can still use this thread in the unlikely event there are other fashion questions. Here are some examples of what I had in mind, just not very good examples.

One day I'm going to pull off black with camel or oxblood shoes and belt.

Khaki pants, blue blazer, plain white dress shirts, lots of different ties. Brown belt and brown comfortable shoes with laces.

For a week on the road, two pair pants, four shirts, five ties and pairs socks and underwear. Throw in my toiletries and I'm good. Let your tie and your attitude stand out. The rest of your clothes just set the stage.

My preferred everyday is jeans and a flannel shirt, but work requires something a little more business like.

I was waiting for this to start, Jim thank you for popping the cherry. Does this gun make my hip look fat?

I would have responded yesterday, but some bloating had me focused elsewhere.

I'm too tall to pull off any knot but a half windsor, unless I'm wearing a vest.

A half windsor on a good silk tie looks best, IMHO. Full windors look too fat.

+1 Agreed. Tied full windsors in Catholic school because we used the knots as a pen holder (till one of the Brothers would make us re-tie the knot). The last 30 years has been all half windsors. They have the added ability to easily un-tie while removing.
